Cpl Kirby's USA Flag and Eagle, Globe, and Anchor tattoo.

USMC EGA Tattoo

Just wanted to submit my tattoo.

My tattoo artist did an amazing job of capturing the things I love. I have the flag over my heart because I truly love this country. The Eagle, Globe & Anchor is over the flag to protect it, I replaced the continents with a bald eagle because the freedom we provide is global. I served with 9th comm. Bn. as a crypto tech (2881) my loyalty to the corps will always be through my service as a crypto tech hence the 2881 has replaced the “Semper Fidelis” in the ribbon.

Thank you Sgt. Grit for providing an outstanding place for Marines, new and old, to converge.

Tattoos for the Marine

I just wanted to drop you this note. I have been trying to find the right tattoo artist that could fix my tribal band and turn it into an incredible Marine Corps Tattoo. I have been looking for about 10 years for the right artist. In Pittsburgh PA I found such an artist. His name is Cliff and is the owner of Angry Moon Tattoo.. www.angrymoontattoo.com Here is the before and after.

He is going to be redoing my jump wings over the next few weeks and I’ll send you a picture when I get them done.

I finally got my Marine Corps tattoo, although it is 20 years after that fact. Decided on a old school style and my artist modified and improved on a Sailor Jerry drawing to make it more original. I also served with US Army Special Ops, after the Corps as well and wanted to include this Desert Storm tattoo that incorporated my unit patch and flash.

Memorial Tattoo

Hi Sgt. Grit –

My Marine son just returned from Iraq two weeks ago. The first thing he wanted to do was go skydiving – which he did. The next thing he did was to get a tattoo that included the names of the fallen Marines in his Company.

I was touched that my “tough Marine” wanted to have such a permanent memory of his fellow Marines that will stay with him no matter where his life leads him.

I hope you agree enough to include this in one of your newsletters.

Thankful that my son made it back home safe (again) -

Arabic USMC Tattoo

United States Marine Corps Arabic Tattoo

hey Sgt Grit,

I'm stationed down in Quantico VA, at TBS I decided to get the ink done in the pic when I graduated from school and became active in the Marine Corps. I took three years of Arabic in College, loved every minute of it and decided to get something to remember the important things in my life put together, Arabic and the Marine Corps. the result is what is across my back now. hope you enjoy. the page is very motivating. keep up the good work.

It's United States Marine Corps in Arabic. Translation is "Qawat misha al-Bahryihal al-Americaia" army of the sea of America is the literal translation. But essentially the trans means USMC in English.

Memorial Side Tattoo

Good evening Sgt Grit,

I was wondering, how would I be able to get my tattoos input onto your site tattoo page. The following tattoo I got for my best friend Sgt Christopher B Melancon. We both join bootcamp together back in May of 2003. We basically done everything together since middle school. Our only big change was, he decided to stay on the east coast at Lejuene and I went to Camp Pendleton. He passed on Sept 30 2007. So for his birthday a few of us went out and got tattoos.

Hello Sgt. Grit,
I didn't see a direct link to you tattoo section so i thought i would send my tattoo image to the only address i could find. I got this tattoo after i was in the fleet for about 2 years and it was a gift from parents. Prior to my EAS i was 6541 Aviation Ordnance and i loved my job. Thank you for you time and help.

EGA Tattoo

Upon returning stateside (San Francisco) in 1966 from my 1st tour of duty off the coast of vietnam with the Marine Detachment aboard USS Enterprise, I got a tattoo of a bulldog with U.S.M.C. on either side. I always regretted not getting an EGA and now forty-two years later I finally got one to cover that faded and almost unrecognizable bulldog.

Rose and Dog Tag tattoo

Marine Rose and Dogtag Tattoo Hello Sgt. Grit.

My name is Tracy and this is my very first tattoo. My husband served in the Marine Corps for 20 years. He went to the gulf war in 90 for 8 months. I wanted to get something to symbolize our love plus, his time in the Marine Corps. I am very proud of him and I showed him thru this tattoo that I received. I want to thank Mimi who works at Taggurs in Yuma, AZ. She did an amazing job.

I finally did it I went out and got my Marine tattoo. I wanted one when I was active duty but never got one. I got out in 1974 after 10 years of service. So at 61 yrs old I seen one on your web page and decided that that was the one that I wanted. I truly think that getting a Marine Tattoo should be something that happens when you graduate from boot camp. I have changed it a little bit from what I found on your site to make it my own. Would you please put it on your web site for me.

Yani meets her husband at the airport Tattoo of a paragraph from husband's letter

I wanted to share my tattoo

I have to admit i took the idea from another wife who had the idea first. My tattoo is a paragraph from a letter my husband wrote me while he was deployed to Iraq. We found out i was pregnant 3 weeks after he deployed. He made it hope 5 days before our first child was born! The tattoo is in his hand writing it says "I think about you every minute and cant stop thinking about being in your arms again and i cant wait to feel the baby i love you so much" I wanted to get the tattoo so i had something to show from the deployment we survived. Attached is a picture of the tattoo and me and my husband at the airport when he came home last year just in time for our sons birth.

Teufel Hunden Tattoo

Teufel Hunden Tattoo

This tattoo was just done last night by Mike "Doc" May, who owns the "Derma Design" tattoo studio in Port Richey, Florida. This is my 3rd Marine tattoo. The basic concept of the shield, devil dog, and "Teufel Hunden" lettering came from a design that I saw on a t-shirt. I changed the design to my liking by making the devil dog really look like a hound from hell, adding flames inside the shield, adding skulls on both sides of the shield, the lower half of a skull at the bottom of the shield, "0311" at the bottom of the shield, and some custom USMC lettering underneath it all. Still to be added is a concertina wire band connecting the USMC lettering, more detail in the skulls (including the top two skulls fading into smoke at the top of my arm), and the eyes of the dog will be red. I put a lot of thought into this tattoo, hope you all like it. Semper Fi.

Sgt. Grit:
I spent 25 years in the Corps and have 40 Tattoes on my body with most coming after I retired since tattoes on officers were taboo at least within the units and places I was stationed. I was in Force Recon and spent sometime with the Pentago. I will not send you all my ink today, but I will send them periodically. I hope they are readable when you get them because I feel I have some unique ink. I heard that tattoes are whats in your soul and everyone has a special meaning to me and some are of family and other topics, but 20 have to do with what I did and where I was in Corps plus symbols and slogans I honor.

I got this one shortly after I became a Corporal of Marines, I plan to have extend down my right side after we get a new tattoo policy, here's hoping so I can finish it. The reason I got it on my ribs instead of on my leg was because I heard it was one of the more painful places to get a tattoo. It was worth it and I love it.

I wanted to send a picture of my tattoo for you all to see and maybe put up on your site. I spent 14 years in the United States Marine Corps and very proud of it. Brothers Forever

Thought some folks might get a kick out of my Marine brother's and my new tat. We meet in boot camp when at about 2am he (without saying a word) handed me a packet of syrup and a saltine cracker (he had appropriated during mess and maintance). We stuck together during MCT and in "A" school at Memphis (Millington, TN). He went west coast and I east cost. We did meet again briefly in NC when his duty station changed, but we were both married and had kids. Years after we went back to civilian life I (working in computers) started looking him up after a few months and phone calls I found him. We helped each other out with everything from 2am hunger pains to family deaths and failing marriages. He is my brother, and I can always count on him. Here are a couple picture of our matching tattoos.

Sgt Grit,

In volume 15 you published some of my USMC tattoos. I want to add the latest one to that group. I based this one on a couple of tee shirt designs from you website and catalog. Several changes were made before my artist Lance Norris of I-Drive Tattoo in Orlando FL an I agreed that we both liked the final design. I attempted to pay homage to the Vietnam War, your designs, and to make a statement at the same time. I think we accomplished the mission.

Tattoo for your consideration

I was in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1990 - 1996, activated during Operation Desert Storm. I've been involved in the Young Marine Program, the Marine Corps League and the Military Order of the Devil Dogs. (I am the first female Devil Dog in Maryland). I have four other tattoos, but never went for the USMC until last week. I had my boy Brendon at Flaming Dice draw up a couple of designs and I went with the "old school" EGA. Hope everyone enjoys it!
